On the first Saturday of May 1997, the flagship edition of the Voice Media Group rolled off the press.

Thus began a proud new era for the South Asian community in the GTA.

Slated to be the largest ethnic community in Canada in the near future, the South Asian community estimated to be over 750,000 in the GTA, comprises immigrants from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal or those of Indian origin who migrated to Canada via Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, Guyana and the Gulf, all sharing a common cultural thread.
