Kareena Ready For Golmaal 4

The success of Golmaal 3 bears testament to the fact that straight-out commercial entertainers shall never die down. Which is why, even though she’s currently working on four projects that belong to that genre, Kareena Kapoor seems just as upbeat about a fourth edition to the Golmaal franchise. “Talks about it are underway. But I don’t think it’ll happen next year. So perhaps the year after that,” the actor says.

Kareena Ready For Golmaal 4Her run of hit movies aside, Kapoor is just as keen to venture into art-house cinema, a dream that is mired by both the kinds of roles she’s now getting and what she calls the ‘irony of Bollywood.’ “The Golmaal franchise might not be a classic masterpiece, but even classic masterpieces don’t always do well. So the fact still remains that ours is an entertainment-crazy nation, and films that focus on entertainment shall do well,” she adds.

Of late, she has been inundated with offers in films that fall under the commercial genre –  be it Ra-One, Bodyguard, Short Term Shaadi or even Agent Vinod. However, she believes she has reached a stage where she can do whatever kinds of roles she deems fit. “If someone offers me a great script, even a new director, I might just impulsively do it. But it has to be that perfect film,” she says.

Although Kapoor is pleased with the final output of Golmaal 3, she doesn’t deny having had reservations about how effectively director Rohit Sharma would reinvent the comedy. She says, “If Golmaal 3 would have had regular song and dance sequences, I wouldn’t have been so excited about it. I portrayed the role of a tomboy alongside five male actors at a time when actresses aren’t doing much besides shaking their hips.”

And even if they are offered roles that hold substance, Kapoor is sceptical of whether an actress alone will be able to ensure the commercial success of a movie. “Bollywood films that are heroine-oriented will only do well to a certain extent. Actresses shouldn’t fool themselves. We live in a male-dominated industry; our economy reflects that, and they’re all interlinked. Films focussing on women can never become as successful as, say Dabangg” she says. The actor was recently asked to start a voice and video portal to keep in touch with fans.

“I shoot 16 hours a day, and it’d become impossible for me to post updates. But I have a Sony Ericsson Facebook page on which I’m active,” she says.
