Independence Days To Be Turned To Days Of Peace In Mississauga
Mississauga: A group of concerned citizens are celebrating the Independence days of India and Pakistan this year, together as days for Peace between India and Pakistan, at the UTM, Mississauga.
The idea began after Swati Sharan, an Indian from Toronto, asked for Prayers for Peace last year on December 18, 2011. “We then took up the idea to celebrate the two days as Peace days between the two peoples. Many groups are celebrating it, on Social media and on real on ground in India, Pakistan, and us in Mississauga,” says Dr Ilmana Fasih, one of the prime movers behind the initiative.
She says that the Indian and Pakistani Students Unions at UTM have endorsed it.
Dr Deep Saini, the Principal of UTM, will be a guest speaker, along with two other Professors from McMaster University.
Asma Mahmood, the founder of Mosaic Festival, will talk on the importance of Peace for the Women in South Asia.
A unique venture will be the launch of a Cricket for Peace online game for the youth, to be inaugurated booted by the students. “An Indian software company has developed it for us fro free as a gift to India Pak peace,” points out Ilamana.
