India Rainbow Thanks Its Volunteers
Mississauga: India Rainbow Community Services of Peel held its annual ‘Volunteer Appreciation’ evening on April 25 to thank and acknowledge the many volunteers who have contributed to the success of the organization through their hard work and dedication. Kitty Chadda, Executive Director, welcomed the guests, and thanked all the volunteers who so selflessly gave of their time, talents, knowledge and energy to serve our diverse clientele in the past year.
“We are extremely proud of our continuing and ever strengthening association with our volunteers”, said Sweety Khanija, Volunteer Coordinator, while acknowledging the immense contributions made by the volunteers. “This year, India Rainbow received 350 requests for volunteering, out of which 299 individuals were interviewed and given orientation, and 280 individuals were matched and placed in different programs. To better put their efforts into perspective, our volunteers contributed a staggering 33,491 hours, roughly equivalent to 19 full time positions!”
Volunteers assist in performing various tasks such as administrative work, outreach, fundraising, friendly visiting to homebound and lonely seniors, interpretation and translation of documents, event organizing and helping in various other aspects of our programs. These volunteers come from different backgrounds: high school students who wish to complete their 40 hours of community service, youth and seniors who are looking to give back to the community, college and university students, those receiving benefits from Ontario Works, some referred by Youth Correctional Services, retirees, and newcomers to Canada.
All members of the volunteer Board of Directors and the Policy Advisory Committee of the organization were also acknowledged for contributing their time, hard work, expertise and dedication.
In closing, Sushil Sharma, Senior Manager, Seniors Services, thanked all the volunteers and board members for attending and for their ongoing support and contribution.
