Obhrai At The UN General Assembly
Ottawa: Parliamentary Secretary Deepak Obhrai will be part of the Canadian delegation that includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister for International Cooperation, and the Minister of State of Foreign Affairs at the sixty-seventh session of the UN Assembly, taking place from Sept. 25 till Oct.1.
Obhrai will work at the General Assembly to advance Canadian values, ideals and priorities. He will raise the issue of fundamental freedoms, democracy, human rights and the rule of law with countries that Canada has expressed concern over in these areas; and he will participate in discussion on, and the promotion of, international security.
The delegation will participate in events on the margins of the Assembly as well as in bilateral meetings with key partners, both of which provide opportunities to advance Canada’s priorities and objectives. The Parliamentary Secretary will conduct key meetings and include an ad-hoc meeting of the Friends of the Syrian People, a meeting on Security, Justice for Conflict-related Gender-based Crimes, meetings on international security and non-proliferation, meetings to address specific country situations such as Haiti, the Sudans, and the Sahel, and a number of meetings related to the Commonwealth and Commonwealth reform.
