Obhrai Concludes Trip To India
Calgary: Parliamentary Secretary Deepak Obhrai travelled to India to join Minister Baird on his first bilateral visit to the country at the invitation of S.M. Krishna, Minister of External Affairs. While in New Delhi, Obhrai and Baird met with Minister Krishna and discussed bilateral relations and regional and global issues of mutual interest.
Obhrai also attended a meeting with S.K. Shinde, Minister of Home Affairs, and Shivshankar Menon, National Security Adviser, where he and Minister Baird conveyed Canada’s commitment to increasing trade and people-to-people links with India and reaffirming that India is an important strategic partner for Canada in the areas of food and energy security, education and infrastructure development.
Both the parliamentary Secretary and the Minister also met with Prithviraj Chavan, Chief Minister of Maharashtra to host a discussion on Canadian companies working in India, during which a number of important issues were brought up including the Canada-India foreign investment promotion and protection agreement and comprehensive economic partnership agreement.
Obhrai had the opportunity to attend the official opening of the new offices of the Consulate General of Canada in Mumbai which was opened to better serve Canadians and Canadian businesses in the city.
