Sonia Discusses Cabinet Reshuffle With Party Leaders
New Delhi: A day ahead of the Congress Working Committee meeting, party president Sonia Gandhi Monday met senior leaders, including C.P. Joshi and Ghulam Nabi Azad, to discuss the current political situation as well as a likely cabinet reshuffle.
Gandhi also met Motilal Vora, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and her political secretary Ahmed Patel, party sources said.
Road Transport Minister Joshi has been given additional charge of the railways after the Trinamool Congress quit the government and also the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) coalition on Friday.
After the exit of six Trinamool ministers, a reshuffle would help fill existing vacancies and also rationalise work of ministers who had more portfolios than one.
According to the sources, there was a possibility of the Congress keeping with itself the railway ministry which was earlier with the Trinamool Congress in the UPA-II.
