Free Yoga Sessions For Seniors
2010-02-06, 13:07:21

Brampton: Several senior citizens in the Brampton region are taking advantage of the free yoga sessions being offered by the Community Environment Alliance (CEA) under the Active Living For A Healthy Community (Act-Heal) since the past one year. The campaign that had humble beginnings, now has over 25 senior members in attendance during a session.

Speaking to the Voice, Naundhi Kaur, Program Animator, said this was a great outlet for some kind of activity for senior members. Weve noticed several seniors are usually bored at home all day especially during winter. They need some kind of activity to keep themselves fit and what better way than yoga, said Kaur. Morever, its all free, she added.

Kaur urged all seniors to take advantage of the Act-Heal program for their well being. According to Kaur, the program is gaining popularity among the seniors. We started with small numbers, but now we have over 25 members attending each session, Kaur said.

Speaking on the benefits of the program, Kaur said participants can expect the following from the Act-Heal sessions: simple yoga to unify your mind, body and soul, feel good with basic aerobic postures, interactive discussions on healthy living, arts and crafts activities to bring out talents and social recreation.

Upon completing the Act-Heal module, participants are provided with take-home instructions to continue the program independently in the comfort of their home.

The yoga sessions are conducted thrice weekly at the Brampton Soccer Centre form 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Trained instructors from Swami Ramdevs Patanjali Yogpeeth in India. Anyone interested in joining this program can contact Kaur on 905-463-99941 for further information and registration.
