Toronto: Haris Sheikh, a Canadian filmmaker of Pakistan origin has completed his independent feature documentary The Blastphemy in protest to Danish cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. The documentary unravels the serial outrage of Muslims over blasphemy of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him), the question of freedom of speech and how a billion Muslims think. This documentary will prove an ice breaker between the warring comrades of freedom of speech and the Muslim’s hardliners, said Director/Producer Haris Sheik. He further adds that it is unfortunate as the same cartoons were reprinted again last month in Norway and protests triggered again in the Muslim’s world. Dalia Mogahed, advisor to the US President Barack Obama and CEO of the Gallup ’s Centre of Muslim Studies, conveys the voices of silent majority of 1.6 billion Muslims. Dalia, the co-author of Who Speaks for Islam and what a Billion Muslims think? explains the causes behind Muslim’s outrage over Danish cartoons, and the freedom of speech issue. Ashtar Ron Allen, famous for his work on Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ, composed the music of, The Blastphemy, while Shahid Ali Khan, disciple of maestro Nustart Fateh Ali Khan and Shannon Kingsburry’s are the playback singers. The Blastphemy is a 62-minute documentary in English and shot around locations in Pakistan, USA and Canada.
