By Binoy Thomas Nandita Das, a sultry and simmering talent, first burst open on the Bollywood firmament portraying the role of a lesbian in Deepa Mehta's controversial (and according to many of her fans, the best) movie Fire. It was over a decade ago. The fire is far extinguished in this gutsy woman who, if odious camparisons are to be drawn (she hates them), followed in the footsteps of Shabana (her co-star in Fire) and has since been a constantly provocative voice in the otherwise largely cosmetic world of Indian cinema. |
