Prince William Receives Scotland’s Highest Honour
London: Prince William was Thursday bestowed with the title of “Knight of the Thistle”, the highest honour in Scotland.
Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip and Duchess of Cambridge Kate and other royals attended the service at St. Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, the Telegraph reported.
The Scottish title honours men and women who have held public office or who have contributed in a significant way to national life.
Crowds gathered near the cathedral, hoping to catch a glimpse of William and Kate, known as the Earl and Countess of Strathearn when in Scotland.
The ceremony was followed by a parade led by 400 pipers.
The ancient Order of the Thistle can only be bestowed by the queen herself. There are currently 16 knights in the order, including Phillip, Prince Charles and Anne, the Princess Royal.
