BRAMPTON: A special event is to be held at the Guruvayurappan (Lord Krishna) Temple at  2580 Countryside Dr., Brampton, on March 31 to mark Hanuman Jayanti. (NE corner of Torbram at Countryside Dr)

Devotees will chant the mystic  Hanuman Chalisa 1008 times in 5 sessions :8 a.m., 10 a.m, 12 noon, 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. Those interested can register their attendance depending on the time slot.

This will be followed by a colourful classical Kathakali  performance at 7:00 pm.. Kathakali is one of the major forms of classical Indian dance (Story play – a unique art form of Kerala) and this performance will be based on the Mahabaratha episode of ‘Kalyanasaugandhikam’, the story of Bhima meeting his brother Hanuman from the Ramayana in the misty crests of the Himalayas.

A special ‘bhanjan’ session was held at the temple last week by a local musical group called ‘Bhajanamritam’ led by singers Raghu Manjapra and Sujatha Ganesh. The temple’s sanctum sanctorum in the centre part is still under construction. Sculptors from India are currently working on the project. Other singers included Abhilash, Babu Nair and Rajkumar Sairam.
