Toronto: On March 27, Young innovators from schools across the Greater Toronto Area will show off their creative inventions at The Learning Partnership’s Invention Convention at the University of Toronto Mississauga on March 27.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., students from Grades 7 and 8 will display their creations designed to solve problems or satisfy a previously under-served market niche.
Taking place in provinces across Canada, Invention Conventions are the culmination of The Learning Partnership’s Investigate! Invent! Innovate! program, which integrates science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills with global competencies such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication to enable students to succeed in the globally competitive workplace.
WHO: More than 150 students will demonstrate their inventions, representing the following school boards: Peel District School Board and Halton Catholic District School Board
WHAT: As part of the program, students have developed inventions to create solutions to everyday problems. They will showcase a range of creations, including:
• A bike repair system designed to reconfigure bike gears
• Underground sensors for crosswalks
• GPS units for finding lost remote controllers
The Learning Partnership is a national charity dedicated to enhancing publicly funded education to prepare students in Canada for a globally connected world by building partnerships between government, education and business.
“We do this through innovative student programs, executive leadership for educators, knowledge mobilization and policy, tribute celebrations of excellence, and collaborations across Canada.
