MISSISSAUGA, ON: The 2019 WRX and WRX STI will arrive at Subaru dealers across Canada this summer with even more reasons to love the brand’s rally-bred performance cars — including an all-new special edition model.
2019 WRX
Powered by a stout 2.0-litre direct-injection turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine, the 2019 WRX is a segment-leader when it comes to value and performance.
With 268 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque on tap, the WRX comes equipped with the choice of a six-speed manual transmission or sport-tuned Lineartronic CVT with manual mode. Both transmissions have been designed to work with the legendary Subarusymmetrical full-time all-wheel drive (AWD).
The Subaru WRX employs an Active Torque Vectoring system that supplements the AWD system for improved cornering and more precise handling. Multi-mode Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) provides a precise and enjoyable driving experience, while Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE), available on CVT-equipped models, lets drivers fine-tune the WRX’s power and performance on the fly.
New for 2019 is Subaru’s next-gen infotainment system that runs through the choice of 6.5- or seven-inch high-resolution touchscreens, and includes smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system also features dual front USB ports and an auxiliary jack. Better still, the 2019 WRX delivers the same outstanding value that it’s long been known for — and one that’s helped it secure the ALG Canadian Residual Value Award for Best Sports Car for the seventh time in 10 years. The WRX offers an unmatched level of safety, with the EyeSight driver assist technology and LED steering-responsive headlights earning WRX the Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in 2018.
2019 WRX STI
For those looking for exhilarating performance and feel, the 2019 WRX STI delivers and then some, bringing with it a racing lineage that spans multiple decades and disciplines. Under the hood lies a 2.5-litre turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine, but for 2019 output has been increased to 310 hp thanks to a new air intake and high-flow performance exhaust. The six-speed manual transmission features a revised third gear ratio.
The WRX STI features a multi-mode Driver Controlled Centre Differential (DCCD) that allows the amount of torque delivered through the Subaru symmetrical full-time AWD system to be adjusted as needed. Like the WRX, the WRX STI also features technologies like Active Torque Vectoring and Subaru’s VDC, along with an enhanced SI-DRIVE system.
Like the WRX, all WRX STI models come equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration through 6.5- or seven-inch infotainment systems, as well as dual USB ports and an auxiliary input.
