BRAMPTON: The Downtown Brampton BIA is thrilled that Brampton City Council has unanimously supported a motion to work with the University of Guelph and Humber College on a relocation of the University of Guelph-Humber’s campus, to Brampton’s new downtown Centre for Innovation (CFI).
“University of Guelph-Humber’s relocating to Brampton would be tremendous for our community, especially for our downtown core,” says Suzy Godefroy, Executive Director, Downtown Brampton BIA.
“This would enhance the economic vitality of our downtown, creating many more jobs, bringing thousands of students into the area to support our businesses.”
The University of GuelphHumber is working with the City of Brampton to potentially relocate its existing North Toronto campus, which would see more than 5,000 students in downtown Brampton by 2025.
“This move would bring a massive influx of economic activity, support local businesses in the vicinity, and create jobs,” says city Councillor for wards 1&5 and BIA Board Member Rowena Santos.
“It will transform the city into a leading education and innovation hub, giving Bramptonians access to more high-quality education right in their own community, making Brampton an even better place to live, work and play.”
Founded in 2002, the University of Guelph-Humber offers students the opportunity to achieve two credentials through four years of full-time studies. Graduates earn an honours degree from the University of Guelph and a diploma from Humber College
“This is extremely exciting news for our downtown community! On behalf of the Downtown Brampton BIA board of directors and staff we look forward to future collaborations with the University of Guelph and Humber College,” says Carrie Leigh Percival, Chair of the Downtown Brampton BIA.
“I also want to congratulate the City of Brampton Council for their leadership on this file and the great work they are doing with regards to building an educational hub right in the very heart of downtown Brampton.”
The Downtown Brampton BIA promotes the commercial area as a vibrant business and shopping district. Through the use of promotional activities such as special events, advertising, and beautification programs, it aims to keep the area foremost in the public’s mind as an attractive, pleasant place to shop, to be entertained, to work, and to live.
