BRAMPTON: The shutdown of colleges and universities in the Greater Toronto Area due to the COVID-19 pandemic has led to lots of uncertainty among international students. Many students have lost their daily or temporary part-time jobs due to the lockdown and have left them in dire financial straits.
Liaison College, Brampton Campus has taken the initiative to support these International Students by providing them with groceries, so that they have regular food on their plates. This has helped many students remain safe and in sound health.
As per Canadian study permit regulations, international students are allowed to work for 20 hrs per week in Ontario, but the present condition has changed the reality.
“There is fear and uncertainty among the students, especially when it comes to food. Some students have also developed depression due to social isolation,” a spokesperson of Liaison College Brampton Campus said.
“Also getting back to their families in different countries is not possible due to travel disruptions and has added to their problems.” Parents of these students have expressed gratitude for this cooperation extended by Liaison College.
The spokesperson said that Liaison College faculty and administration felt it was the right thing to do for these students during their time of need and students now feel they have someone to think about them in their isolation..
