Toronto: Canadian Newa Guthi, a GTA-based Nepalese community organization incepted in 2005, recently celebrated its 15thanniversary virtually.
Inaugurating the program by lighting the Newa traditional lamp, Guthi’s President Mr. Prakash Pradhan congratulated all for the support to bring the organization to its good stature today.
General Secretary Mr. Bimal Shrestha delivering the welcome speech and presented a brief glimpse of the Guthi since its inception. Speaking at the program, Prof. Dr. Tom O’Neil of Brock University appreciated the Guthi’s multi-faceted activities and expressed his happiness at being associated with the Newah community, an ethnic group with the rich and powerful culture.
President of the World Newah Organization Mr. Season Shrestha lauded for the efforts made by Guthi to preserve Newah heritage in Canada.
Ex-Vice Chancellor of Lumbini Buddhist University Prof. Dr. Naresh Man Bajracharya explained that our physical existence and academic prosperity will have no value if our culture is not preserved.
Toronto University Ph. D. student on Newa Buddhism Mr. Ian Turner, who delivered the speech in Newah language, explained the rich heritage of Newa people and thanked Guthi for the support in his research work.
Deliberating a speech on “Topicality of Newah Heritage in Present Situation”, Guthi’s Vice President Mr. Uttam Makaju elucidated on the need of preserving Newah culture which is closely attached to the environment, community, and sustainability.
Speaking on “Needs of Transferring the Indigenous Newah Skill to the Second Generation”, Guthi’s Secretary Dr. Prajwal Pradhan stressed the need to create a model of teaching which is more compatible and compliable with the interest of the young generation.
On the occasion, President Prakash Pradhan unveiled the report “15 Years of Newa Cultural Heritage in Canada” while the report-making team coordinator Dr. Rinjan Shrestha explained that the activities were categorized in incubation, innovation, and implementation sections.
This was followed by the presentation of the financial report from the treasurer Mr. Naresh Tamrakar.
Public Relations Coordinator Mr. Suman Rajbanshi thanked all for their attendance. At the end of the program, attendees were entertained with songs, music, and poetry recital.
