BRAMPTON, ON (March 11, 2020) – The City of Brampton is working closely with Peel Public Health and other community and GTHA partners on precautionary measures to protect residents and prevent the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus).
COVID-19 causes respiratory illness that can spread from person-to-person.Symptoms have ranged from mild to severe, and commonly include fever, cough and shortness of breath.
As with any illness, it is advisable for people to stay home if ill, and to avoid contact with others who are ill. Please wash hands regularly, and cover coughs and sneezes.
The City is following the direction and advice of Peel Public Health. While the current risk remains low in Peel, the City of Brampton is taking the following steps to help protect the health of our community:
Brampton Transit – Increased frequency of cleaning and disinfecting hard surfaces and seats in buses, facilities and terminals.
Events/Programming – City-owned programming is running as scheduled. External event partners may have different health and wellness protocols, and as a result some events may be cancelled.
Facilities – Increased frequency of cleaning and disinfecting facilities and public counters. Handwashing signage is placed in washrooms, and hand-sanitizing stations are placed at all facility entrances and washrooms.
The City of Brampton has a comprehensive business continuity plan to support all City departments in the delivery of daily and emergency services to residents. Brampton Fire and Emergency Services has created an internal team to liaise with City stakeholders, the Ontario Fire Marshal, and emergency services partners in order to be prepared for and mitigate the impact of COVID-19.
