BRAMPTON, Ont. A convicted sex offender is back behind bars following an outcry from a Toronto-area community that protested her arrival in Brampton, Ont.
Peel Regional Police say Madilyn Harks who was previously known as Matthew Harks was arrested on Friday.
They say the Correctional Service of Canada issued a warrant of suspension that revoked her long-term supervision order.
Police say no charges have been laid against Harks, who was previously convicted of three sexual assaults against young children.
Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown had complained to Canada’s public safety minister about Harks being placed in his community.
It’s not clear why Harks’ supervision order was suspended, and the Correctional Service said it could not comment on a specific case.
A spokeswoman for the Correctional Service said a warrant of suspension can be issued if there’s “any indication that an offender’s risk in the community cannot be effectively managed.”
