BRAMPTON: Regional Councillor Gurpreet Singh Dhillon collaborated with the Peel Police last week in hosting a virtual Commercial Trucking Town Hall for members of the public who work in the trucking and logistics industry.
The town hall, which was the first of its kind, focused on safety issues within the industry, mainly truck and trailer thefts, and included presentations from panelists from the Peel Police Services Board, Commercial Auto Crime Unit and Crime Prevention Unit, along with industry experts from the Ontario Trucking Association, Toronto Trucking Association, and the Insurance Bureau of Canada
The event concluded with a question and answer period where public participants were able to ask questions directly to the panelists.
Due to the success of the event, Councillor Dhillon said that he will be bringing a motion to form a new trucking advisory committee at the Region of Peel, which will include stakeholders from the industry and different levels of government.
“This town hall was an opportunity to educate the industry on how to better protect their trucks and their loads, and also an opportunity to listen to their constructive feedback,” said Councillor Dhillon.
“However, this is only the start. I look forward to creating a new trucking advisory committee at the Region of Peel, where we can finally have a regular and frequent discussion on all trucking-related matters and will include all industry stakeholders.”
He added: “The trucking industry in Peel plays a vital role keeping Canada’s economy running, and it needs its voice heard. I look forward to continuing to work with our drivers and transport companies to ensure the industry is successful well into the future.”
