Crown Group Of Hotels Expands Into Ottawa With New Acquisition

261-Room Holiday Inn Ottawa East Acquired; $200 M Condo Development Plan Also Announced

Mississauga: Crown Group of Hotels, based in Mississauga, has expanded into Ottawa with the acquisition of the Holiday Inn Ottawa East located at 1199 Joseph Cyr St, Ottawa.

Crown Group of Hotels, a hospitality company, owns and operates multiple internationally recognized brands such as Marriott, Hilton, Choice, etc. and has now added Intercontinental Hotels Group to their portfolio.

Mr. Kuldeep Sharma, President & CEO, Crown Group of Hotels owns the company and his children, Shivani Sharma Gupta & Sameer Sharma, manage the company’s portfolio of family held assets.

On February 15th Mr. Sharma organized a Champagne Reception at the hotel to celebrate the acquisition and host the ribbon cutting ceremony for the on-site restaurant, now rebranded as Myra’s Bar & Kitchen.

The restaurant is named after his granddaughter and the second location they have opened in Canada in the past three years.

The grand evening was attended by several dignitaries, including Deputy Mayor of Ottawa, Mrs. Laura Dudas, MP Ottawa-Vanier, Mona Fortier, MPP Natalie Des Rosiers, Regional City Councillor Tim Tierney, senior officials  from the Indian High Commission Mr. Rakesh Mohan and Mr. Sunil Kumar and businessmen from Ottawa and Toronto.

Mrs Dudas presented a recognition plaque to Mr. Kuldeep Sharma on behalf of the Mayor of Ottawa welcoming him to Ottawa.

Mr. Sharma said he was happy to expand to Ottawa with the acquisition of not only the hotel but also the surrounding land part of which is occupied by the Lone Star Texas Grill.

He went on to announce plans for development of 600 condominium or apartment units on land behind the hotel. “With close proximity to downtown Ottawa, the St Laurent Mall and growing public transit, this area boasts a great location for families to reside. We look forward to continuing this discussion with the city,” said Mr. Sharma.

Mr. Kuldeep Sharma began his business career with the opening of a security company in India which grew across the country to employ over 12,000 people  and is now focusing on growing his Canadian presence.

The 261-room Holiday Inn hotel features 8,200 square feet of convention space, a Western cuisine restaurant, pool, gym and many more amenities.

In recent years it has been renovated at a cost of over $12 million dollars.

 

The hotel has a newly appointed General Manager, Mr. Raymundo Patino, a local Ottawa resident to lead the team of over 100 staff members and operations for this significant investment by the company into the City of Ottawa. Crown Group of Hotels has plans to further invest more in  the hotel to ensure it provides the best experience for every guest they welcome through their doors. Their next phase of condo construction in Ottawa is expected to exceed $200 million.
