(NC) While spring might be on the horizon, wintery weather in Canada is no joke. Snow, sleet and black ice can make for a dangerous drive for those of us on the road.
Here are some important tips and reminders to help you drive safely and with confidence this season.
Clear your car
Leaving snow or debris on the roof of your vehicle can be very dangerous. It could slide off and onto another car as you drive, blocking views of the road and/or causing collisions. Always be sure to clean off the top of your car well.
Adjust your speed
When you encounter snowy, rainy or icy conditions remember to slow down and leave more space between yourself and other vehicles. Slowing down in poor weather can reduce the chance of collisions, giving you more time to react and making impacts less severe.
Stay engaged
Quick reflexes and strict attention are always critical when driving, so it’s important to never get behind the wheel while impaired by drugs or alcohol. Impaired driving is the leading cause of criminal death and injury in Canada.
Any use of cannabis impacts whether you’re fit to drive since it can impair your reflexes, judgment, and your ability to drive safely. Just like alcohol, it’s illegal to drive while impaired by cannabis, and police can test for it.Find more information at Canada.ca/dont-drive-high.
