MISSISSAUGA: The Ontario government has officially opened the enhanced Cooksville GO Station, a key transit hub and a base to travel across Peel, Halton, and Toronto that will provide customers with easier access to GO Transit, Mississauga’s MiWay Transit, and the future Hurontario LRT.
Transit infrastructure improvements for riders in the Peel region are part of the province’s commitment to providing a fast, safe and reliable GO Transit service experience across the Greater Golden Horseshoe, connecting more people to jobs.
Details were provided by Caroline Mulroney, Minister of Transportation, Kinga Surma, Associate Minister of Transportation, and Kaleed Rasheed, MPP for Mississauga East – Cooksville.
“As the announcement confirms, our government is delivering on its promise to build better transit, reduce traffic congestion and improve the environment,” said Caroline Mulroney, Minister of Transportation.
“By building a modern, regional transportation network we are enabling people to travel seamlessly throughout the Greater Golden Horseshoe to get to work, visit family, or to go shopping.”
Customers now have full access to the transformed Cooksville GO Station, complete with an integrated six-level parking structure that adds more than 750 new parking spaces for a total of over 2,500.
The new station includes a redeveloped and modern building with upgraded pedestrian tunnels to rail platforms, eight new bus bays for GO and MiWay service, and a large glass east pavilion, that not only acts as an indoor waiting area but also provides a clear view of the new passenger pick-up and drop-off area.
Kinga Surma, Associate Minister of Transportation, said: “By connecting the communities of Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon, our government is helping connect more people to housing, jobs and opportunities, supporting future economic growth across the region.”
“This is great news for Cooksville and for those who reside in the Mississauga area,” said Kaleed Rasheed, MPP for Mississauga East – Cooksville.
“With connections to the Milton train line and local transit, the redeveloped Cooksville GO will be a key transit hub and a base to travel across Peel, Halton and Toronto.”
“This is a great day for Mississauga, and I want to thank the Province for its work on completing the new Cooksville GO,” said Bonnie Crombie, Mayor of Mississauga. “This new station will become a critical transit hub for our City, helping move our residents around the GTA quickly and efficiently, while also supporting our efforts to build communities and grow our economy.”
By improving stations and giving GO customers other amenities like free GO Wi-Fi on buses and trains, the Ontario government is demonstrating its commitment to improving the overall customer experience with progress and enhancements across the entire GO Transit network.
