Schomberg, King City: A wonderful Farmers’ Parade of Lights was organized on December 6 by the Schomberg Village Association in King City. Because of the pandemic, the association worked with its partners – the Schomberg Agricultural Society and the Township – to ensure that everybody could enjoy the parade.
This year, the parade had a twist. Instead of farm vehicles travelling along Main Street, they were parked in the agricultural fairgrounds, and the public drove through in a steady stream to admire them, listening to a narrated description of each vehicle on their cell phones, according to the SVA Facebook post.
“ And a smiling Santa with Mrs Claus was there to wave a jolly “HO Ho Ho” to visitors at the exit. Ground Marshalls braved the cold (Tigger probably the only one not frozen) but even though fingers and toes were numb, spirits were high. The evening was a huge success.”
A Virtual Christmas Craft Market is an attraction this year – open now until December 23, Stephen Lecce, MPP for KingVaughan. Ontario’s Minister of Education, who attended the parade tweeted: “Grateful to King’s farmers and volunteers for putting on an incredible experience for the community this holiday.”
Situated in the GTA within the North-West quadrant of King, at the corner of Highway #9 and #27, Schomberg has about 2500 residents and is part of King Township..
Schomberg is famous for its Agricultural Fair held in May and which is Canada’s longest running fair. It’s Main Street Christmas is also a popular attraction.
