MISSISSAUGA: Do you want to have some fun, and do something good for your health? Now you can do that, and make a difference for Canadian patients at the same time.
Canadian Blood Services is participating as a charity partner in the Mississauga Marathon Scotiabank Charity Challenge, taking place from May 4 to 6.
Don’t let the word “marathon” in the title fool you! You can take part in anything from a two-kilometre family fun walk to a full marathon. The important thing is to get out and get moving, all while raising funds to help patients who need it most.
These are patients like seven-year-old Abby, who was diagnosed with lymphoma and has had approximately 25 life-saving blood transfusions.
Or Charles, who was diagnosed with sickle-cell disease at six months old and continues to receive life-saving red blood cells on a regular basis as an adult. Or even Nicholas, who was born prematurely and with only a fraction of the blood he needed to survive, and who received two blood transfusions that saved his life.
You can make a difference for patients like Abby, Charles, and Nicholas just by signing up to run or walk and fundraise for Canadian Blood Services during the Mississauga Marathon Scotiabank Charity Challenge. You can participate on your own, or create a team of family and friends.
If you can’t participate in the event itself, remember that financial gifts save lives by helping further Canadian Blood Services’ work in four areas: blood, stem cells, organs and tissues, and research and innovation.
Sign up to participate at give.blood.ca/run. Start training and fundraising now to hit the ground running in May.
