Once the shopping frenzy of Black Friday and Cyber Monday has subsided, many people are marking the beginning of the giving season by celebrating Giving Tuesday on November 27th.
Touted as the global day of giving—last year over 150 countries participated—GivingTuesday celebrates and encourages donations and volunteering activities that support all charities and non-profit organizations.
This year, William Osler Health System Foundation is encouraging people to donate to their local hospitals to help fund essential equipment, like wheelchairs.
“GivingTuesday encourages people to start the holiday season by giving back,” said Ken Mayhew, President and CEO of William Osler Health System Foundation. “By donating to a local hospital, you are helping to fund essential equipment that will directly help people living in your community. Donations made to Osler through this campaign will help fund the purchase of new wheelchairs. We truly appreciate the support.”
Many people don’t realize that 100% of the equipment inside a hospital is funded by the community. With this in mind, the Osler Foundation needs help to purchase 20 new wheelchairs for Etobicoke General Hospital, Peel Memorial and Brampton Civic. They cost $500 each, but every gift can make a difference.
As one of the most used items of equipment within a hospital, wheelchairs need to be replaced or repaired on a regular basis and, as the number of patients within the hospital grows, so does the demand for new wheelchairs. Whether it’s a mother going into labour, a child with a broken leg or an elderly patient that needs assistance getting to their appointment, wheelchairs are essential for excellent patient care.
This GivingTuesday, show your commitment to improving healthcare in your community by helping Osler Foundation purchase 20 new wheelchairs. Also, as part of the GivingTuesday campaign, a donor to Osler Foundation has agreed to match each donation, up to a maximum of $50,000. For example, a $250 donation will become $500, and a $100 donation will become $200.
