If you are a young Canadian between the ages of 16 and 24 who is eager to build a better Canada, Navdeep Bains wants to hear from you.
The Member of Parliament for Mississauga-Malton is inviting young residents of his riding to become members of his new Constituency Youth Council (CYC). The Council will bring together between 10 and 20 young people from Mississauga-Malton to advise him on issues that matter to them.
The Liberal government values the views of young Canadians, who are the leaders and innovators of the future. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said that “young voices must be part of our decision-making process.”
The Mississauga-Malton Youth Council will accept applications from interested young people until October 15, 2016. The CYC will include young people who represent the diversity of the community. That includes representatives from different schools, neighbourhoods and local associations.
Once the members are selected, the Council will meet several times throughout the year. Issues that are likely to come up for discussion include climate change, access to employment, LGBTQ and peacekeeping.
The views of the Council will provide MP Bains with a better understanding of the priorities of his young constituents. At the same time, the Council will provide young people in the riding with the opportunity to connect with each other, while learning more about the Canadian political process.
