BRAMPTON, Ont.  Police west of Toronto say a second-degree murder charge has been laid in an alleged hit-and-run on Christmas that left a 51-year-old man dead.

Peel Regional Police say the man was taken to hospital with serious injuries shortly after the 11 p.m. collision, and died a short time later.

They say collision investigators began probing the crash but soon realized it should be handed to the homicide bureau.

Police say they found the vehicle involved in the incident and arrested a suspect _ a 53-year-old local man.

He’s due to appear in court on the second-degree murder charge on Friday.

Police are asking anyone with information that could help with the investigation to come forward.
