TORONTO: The Nepalese Canadian Women’s Association (NCWA) recently organized a program to celebrate the 108th International Women’s Day.
Speaking at the program Minister of Senior Affairs of Ontario Dipika Damrela highlighted the importance of Women’s Day and congratulated the NCWA for organizing the program.
She also handed over a message from Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne.
The Nepalese ambassador to Canada, Kali Prasad Pokhrel, reiterated the need for attitudinal changes for gender equity and praised Canada for its exemplary role in having equal representation in the federal cabinet.
MP Julie Dabrusin threw light on the recent federal budget which gives great attention to promote women in the workplace and as entrepreneurs. more benefit to women. Other speakers included Consul General of Nepal Dr.Kunjar Sharma, NRN Canada General secretary Chiran Ghimire and NRN ICC member Pramila Basnet . Dr. Annie Shrestha of Toronto University emphasized the need for women upliftment for holistic development of society.
Six women from different fields were recognized for their struggles and successes. The program was jointly inaugurated by Minister. Dipika Damrela, Kali Prasad Pokhrel and NCWA President Ms. Sushila Bhandari. Local artists entertained the guests with songs and folk dances.
