In Toronto, Ontario Long-Term Care Minister Rod Phillips announces provincial funding of $270 million this year for long-term care homes to hire more staff. He is joined by George Brown College president Gervan Fearon, and the minister’s parliamentary assistant Effie Triantafilopoulos. The minister announces as well funding of $4.9 billion over four years to increase direct resident care. He also says the government will introduce legislation to enshrine its commitment of providing an average of four hours per day of direct care for each long-term care resident.
