Yukon’s fire information officer says 40 firefighters from Ontario have joined local crews in battling the Bear Creek fire near the village of Haines Junction.
Mike Fancie of Wildland Fire Management says crews may get help from expected rainfall as they try to control the blaze that measures 6.5 square kilometres.
Fancie says existing crews have constructed a fire break around the fire that is burning about nine and a half kilometres north of Haines Junction.
However, he says it could take several weeks for crews to put out the blaze that was reported last weekend.
Firefighters from Yukon First Nations Wildfire have also joined the effort as crews from British Columbia fight a 129-square-kilometre blaze in a remote area on the eastern edge of the territory.
