Mississauga – Can we have females as superheroes? Well, we already have them around us in the shape of a mother, daughter, sister or a wife who are shaping the lives of thousands across the globe on daily basis.
A superhero is defined by their righteous actions, their ability to lead and inspire others, their heroism and nobility in the face of obstacles, and their fortitude and moral compass in fighting injustice. This can all be said for the inspirational, powerful, kind, and brave women one company has tried to feature in its comic book art.
NerdBear.com has reimagined real-life superwomen, and their empowered moments, as comic book pages.
Talking to Weekly Voice, Amar Hussain, Founder of Near Bear, said: “As the founder and owner of a publication such as Nerd Bear, I believe there is an opportunity and responsibility to promote positivity through our content. As comic book movies are of a keen interest to our core demographic it was an easy link to create a project that celebrated women as superheroes.”
Amar said they hope that with this project they “could shine a light on some of the courageous and outstanding achievements of super women and even if only in a small way that it helps sparks a conversation or inspires more women that more women should be credited and honoured for their achievements.” In future they intend to sell these comic book pages as prints to “raise money for the great causes and create new art work yearly to celebrate future achievements by more women.”
Through this project Amar “wanted to celebrate some defining moments over the last couple of years and the incredible women behind them.
For this we thought it would be fitting to turn these superwomen into comic book strips and the Real-Life Superwomen Project was born.”
According to Amar, through this opportunity they wish to highlight some sobering facts that illustrate that still a lot needs to be done as over 2.7 billion women are legally restricted from having the same choice of jobs as men and only 5% of the Fortune 500 CEOs are females.
It is also worth noting that the global proportion of parliamentary seats occupied by women stood at 23.8 per cent in June 2018; 35 per cent of women worldwide have experienced either physical or sexual violence and 137 women across the world are killed by a member of their own family every day.
Through this project, NerdBear.com wishes to bring to fore issues related to women even in the 21st century and inspire scores with the stories of those who broke these shackles and carve their own niche through sheer hard work and courage.
