Riverstone Conservation Area Beckons Bramptonians

BRAMPTON:  The City of Brampton will host a public meeting to discuss the future community centre at the Riverstone Clubhouse and how it will benefit our community.

The public is invited to visit the building, talk with City staff about the project, and find out more about the plans for Brampton’s newest recreation centre and conservation area.

“The public meeting will be held on”Thursday, February 15”at”1-3 pm”and”6-8 pm.”The two sessions will take place at the Riverstone Clubhouse, 150 Don Minaker Drive (near McVean Drive and Queen Street East).

The renovated community centre will offer fitness rooms, multi-purpose rooms, and an updated aquatics facility with a therapeutic pool. Residents of all ages will be welcome to enjoy the centre, while an emphasis on seniors’ programming will help support the older adult population on the east side of Brampton.

The valley lands, formerly the golf course, will be naturalized to create a new conservation area. This will preserve important habitat for local wildlife, and provide a connected trail system to encourage active living. The purchase of the Riverstone clubhouse and surrounding lands was based on extensive consultation with Brampton residents, community groups, and businesses during the development of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan.  By renovating an existing facility instead of building new, the City will save millions of dollars and years of construction time. The addition of this community centre and conservation area will improve access to recreation services and support a healthy and active lifestyle for local residents.” The new recreation centre is expected to open to the public in Spring 2019.
