TO Live x Small World Music – Wednesdays, May 6 – June 24
Partnering with TO Live on their “Living Rooms” series, Small World will co-present 8 local, newcomer artists, who will perform and provide insight into their practice through this unique platform. Videos will be published weekly on Wednesdays on TO Live and SWM social media channels, as well as on the TO Live website. Participating artists include several members of our signature artist development program, eMERGEnce, including: Iraqi musician, singer and actor, Ahmed Moneka; actor, producer, musician Gloria Gift; internationally renowned actor and musician Meesha Shafi, and more.
MusicTogether x Small World Music – Thursday, May 7
Small World Music partners up with a new live-stream platform, MusicTogether, to celebrate diverse voices, and showcase 10 artists during a day-long program on Thursday, May 7, starting at 11am. The program will include two artists originally scheduled to perform during Small World’s Asian Music Series, Amely Zhou (leader of the ‘Borderless’ project) and sarod maestro, Arnab Chakrabarty. Other artists include members of SWM’s eMERGEnce Cohort, and showcase/conference Global Toronto participating artist – Kaia Kater.
URGNT x MusicTogether x Small World Music – Friday, May 8
On Friday, May 8, what would have been the second day of Global Toronto, Small World partners up again with the URGNT series to present multi-talented Pakistani artist, actor and singer Meesha Shafi. A major star in South Asia and a newcomer to Toronto, Shafi was also scheduled to showcase at Global Toronto.
City Hall Live Online x Small World Music – Wednesday, May 20
Small World Music curates two performances as part of the City Hall Live Online series, launched on April 16. The City of Toronto livestream series raises money for the Unison Benevolent Fund, while creating more paid opportunities for local musicians. Artists presented by SWM are eMERGEnce participants, Syrian-born, Toronto based artists Tarek Ghriri and Nour Kaadan (already performed on April 20), and Aqua Nibii Waawaaskone, a singer, songwriter, storyteller, dancer, actor, artist, activist two-spirit Anishinaabe Kwe of mixed Ancestry (Wednesday, May 20).
