The cuisine of The United States is a rich amalgamation of peoples, religions and cultures thanks to the immigrants from different parts of the world.
They brought with them their local ingredients as well as cooking styles with them. Yet amidst all these varieties Chinese and Italian cuisines dominate.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Americans developed a number of new foods. What characterised the American cuisine is the adaptation of a fusion of multiple ethnic cooking styles. During this period food production and presentation became more industrialised. – Sanjeev Kapoor.
Ingredients:
Hot dog rolls 4
Chicken sausages 4
Butter 2 tablespoons
Onions cut into roundels and separated into rings 2 medium
Castor sugar (caster sugar) 1 medium
Tomato ketchup for spreading
Mustard paste for spreading
Mayonnaise 4 tablespoons
Potato chips to serve
Method
Step 1
Heat 1 tablespoon butter in a non-stick pan. Place sausages in it and cook, rotating them, on high heat for 1-2 minutes. Transfer onto a plate.
Step 2
Heat remaining butter in the same non-stick pan. Add onion rings and cook till they turn golden. Add castor sugar, mix and cook for 1 minute. Transfer onto the same plate.
Step 3
Slit hot dog rolls without cutting through.
Step 4
Spread some tomato ketchup on one side of the cut side of each roll and some mustard paste on the other side.
Step 5
Place one cooked sausage and put some caramelized onion rings in each roll. Spread 1 tablespoon mayonnaise on top.
Step 6
Serve hot with potato chips.
