The Mississauga Food Bank Drive May Exceed Target

foodMississauga: Days from The Mississauga Food Bank’s 2012 Holiday Food and Fundraising Drive, the charity has collected 210,000 lbs. of food to date surpassing their goal of 175,000 lbs. They have raised $166,000 and have until December 31 to reach their $250,000 fundraising goal to ensure the necessary resources are available to distribute this food into the new year.

The success of the Holiday Drive so far is a result of the overwhelming generosity of the Mississauga community and the tireless efforts organizing and conducting food and fundraising drive across the city. Â From OPP officers and volunteers who crammed cruisers at grocery stores and raised over $22,000, to the countless food drives held across the city by families, schools and corporations, the food bank simply could not feed the 65,000 clients that rely on them for support each month without this tremendous support.

The Mississauga Food Bank is also grateful for the hard work of event organizers and volunteers including the successful ‘Twas the Bite Before Christmas campaign in Port Credit. Events like these are held to raise financial and food donations to support The Mississauga Food Bank and its more than 150 food programs throughout the year.

Chris Hatch, Executive Director of The Mississauga Food Bank, pays special thanks to “…the countless volunteers, supporters and donors in our community. Each and every year I am moved by a new story of how these people have helped change lives. It is these selfless acts of support and generosity that put food on the tables of hungry families during the holidays and year-round.”
