Today, Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders announced that his last day as Chief of the Toronto Police Service will be July 31, 2020. Chief Saunders has served with the Toronto Police Service for almost four decades and as Chief for more than 5 years.
The Chief announced the news earlier today to the members of the Service and followed with a news conference.
Chief Saunders said he is looking forward to spending more time with his family and to continue serving the city from outside the Service.
The Chief thanked his members and asked them to keep building the strong relationships the Service has with the community, not just with words, but with action. “The public is asking and I know that you will continue to listen. Thank you, it has been my honour to be your Chief.”
Chief Saunders thanked the Toronto Police Services Board and Mayor John Tory for their support of the Toronto Police Service.
