The Town of Innisfil recently celebrated its 200th anniversary. MPP for BarrieInnisfil, Andrea Khanjin released a copy of the 2020 Historical Review – Town of Innisfil 200th Anniversary Edition.
She tweeted: “Many thanks to the Innisfil Historical Society for this wonderful book about the town’s rich history.”
The area was first settled in 1820 with the arrival of the Hewson Family on Big Bay Point, the first Europeans to settle on what became the town of Innisfil. 1820 also marked the completion of the first survey of the land by the then Government of Upper Canada.
The presence of indigenous peoples in Innisfil – from the Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Anishinabek Nations dates back thousands of years, MPP Khanjin said in a statement.
