TORONTO A Toronto college says three of its international students were the victims of a deadly crash over the weekend that police allege was caused by an impaired driver.
Centennial College has released a statement saying two students died and another was badly injured in the Sunday evening crash, which saw a Mazda plow into three pedestrians.
The college did not release the victims’ names or nationalities, but said the three were staying on the east-Toronto campus over the holidays.
Toronto police have said a man lost control of his vehicle, mounted the sidewalk and struck a guardrail before hitting three pedestrians.
Two 19-year-old men were pronounced dead in hospital, and another man was seriously injured.
Michael Johnson, of Pickering, Ont., faces multiple charges including operation of a conveyance causing death while impaired.
“We ask that you keep the families and friends impacted by this tragedy in your thoughts,” the college said in a statement Monday. “Let’s continue to move forward with compassion and support for each other.”
The college said it would not be releasing the names of the students until family members have been notified.
