TORONTO: VENT: June 23, 2021 marks the 36th anniversary of the largest mass murder/terrorism incident in Canadian history.
Air India Flight 182 from Canada exploded off the coast of Ireland on June 23, 1985 by a terrorist bomb killing 329 people.
This included over 280 Canadian citizens including 29 entire families and 86 children under the age of 12.
The families hold services every year in order to not only remember their loved ones lost, but also to remind Canadians that we must remain vigilant against the threat and dangers of terrorism at all times June 23 has also been designated by the Canadian government as the National Day of Remembrance to all Victims of Terrorism.
Canadians take a moment to reflect on others who have also been affected by the ills of terrorism. For decades the victims’ families fought for a public inquiry in order to identify challenges in Canadian institutions that could be improved to better protect all Canadians.
That inquiry was held and resulted in a number of recommendations to improve the security of Canada. Memorial Services for June 23, 2021 – On-Line Memorial Messages Due to COVID-19 the organizers of the memorial are unable to hold organized group events at any of the Memorials in Canada.
