TORONTO: A virtual workshop on Exploring Pathways for Canada-India Collaboration was organized jointly by the Bharat Centre of Canada and ICICIBank Canada’s Indian @Heart Club in association with the Consulate-General of India in Toronto, on 28th May 2021.

Illustrious speakers from various sectors joined the workshop and discussed options and opportunities for collaboration between the two countries.

Canada and India have longstanding, bilateral relations built upon shared traditions of democracy, pluralism and strong interpersonal connections. Canada is home to around two million people with roots in India and forms a major part of the diaspora.

Speakers pointed out that, there was much to collaborate and the purpose of the workshop was to check on the possibilities for collaboration options between Canada and India – mainly from the aspects of investment, trade and business opportunities in India for Canadian investors, businessmen and entrepreneurs.

The panelists highlighted that for long India has been a priority market for Canada. India is Canada’s 9th largest export market, and 10th largest trading partner. Canada’s commercial priorities in India are targeted at India’s policy objectives and sectors where Canada has a comparative advantage.

The purpose of the workshop was also to identify possible new approaches and suggest the need to develop appropriate and relevant policies to enhance the bilateral relationship. The panelists of the workshop provided a greater clarity in this regard, a spokesperson for the organizers said.
